We signed up for a CSA about a year ago, and we love it. There are about a bajillion benefits to having a box of fresh, local, organic produce dropped off on our doorstep once a week… these are my top 4:
1. There is always produce in the house, even when we barely have time to brush our teeth, much less hit a farmer’s market.
2. Someone else picks the produce, so it’s often veggies with which I don’t have much experience. My first chard was from our CSA, and now it’s a staple in the house!
3. We’re supporting local farms who do it right.
4. It’s organic.
We talk a lot about our CSA, and while I just tell others how great it is, Tyler tends to qualify the greatness with the phrase, “It’s probably more expensive, but…” It’s become a topic of friendly debate.
So today I’m hosting a produce smack down! CSA prices vs. Vons. I’ve tried to present this in the most objective way possible, even though I secretly want to prove Tyler wrong. Even as I write this, I’m not sure who the winner will be. Oh, the suspense! Continue reading
